The 2009 Raiders game was not long after he got his bell rung by the Chiefs.

He wasn't the problem in that game. The defense was pathetic late in the game.

They were pathetic that whole month.

This is a sorting out period for Oakland. These aren't McKenzie's players. Many of them won't be back.

The Raiders changed to a zone blocking system for the sole reason that Greg Knapp doesn't know anything else. Now they can't run. Last year they ran the hell out of the ball.

Everything else falls apart after that central fact. They'll be lucky to win six games.

Knapp is a notoriously bad playcaller.

The Raiders finally had a decent offense last year for the first time in a decade and now they're back to square one on that side of the ball.

What are your thoughts on having the play banned?

I think banning it would go against the league's stated goals of improving player safety.

It would quickly be placed by the three step drop followed by the quarterback hitting the dirt. Banning it is useless, so it figures Jones came up with the idea.

You've all seen those commercials for the NFL "game cap," right? Where Jerry Jones tells the guy to take off the 10-gallon hat?

Yeah, they're serious as hell about selling those. Alex Smith has been threatened with a $15,000 fine if he wears his San Francisco Giants hat to another press conference.

Then take away spiking the ball to kill the clock.

Nicks joins Bradshaw as out for tomorrow's game. This matchup is looking better and better for Carolina.
