Miami's next two games banged due to COVID. Multiple quotes out there from admins basically saying there is zero appetite to extend the season to add more regular season games. In fact, if anything, they'd like to push the timeline up to ensure the playoff is played.

The whole season is a farce. I respect the players who want to play, but no legitimate champion will be crowned out of this mess.

That won't stop Alabama from claiming it.

In some ways it is kind of refreshing to see college sports matter so little and merely be about providing students with a platform to display their athletic prowess. I know that sounds like an 1910 mission statement from some DII conference - but the games have never mattered so little - unless you are a coach who got fired.

Some low tier conference realignment stirring.

Multiple rumors that the ASUN may add Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State from the OVC and Central Arkansas from the Southland. The ASUN does not sponsor Football, but has an agreement with the Big South that all ASUN schools can play Big South Football.

Can confirm that ASUN likely to add Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and Jacksonville State for the 2021-22 season. twitter.com/KendallRogers/…

Alternatively, any of these 3 schools could try to follow Liberty's path and join the ASUN as an FBS Independent in Football.

Kennesaw State and North Alabama are currently ASUN members that play Football in the Big South, so if the ASUN wanted to sponsor Football they'd be just 1 team short of the 6 required for an FCS playoff autobid.

The Big South/ASun thing was interesting when it was signed a couple of years ago, precisely for a situation like this. Now for football, the Big South looks like:

    Hampton
    Monmouth
    Robert Morris
    North Carolina A&T
    Gardner-Webb
    Charleston Southern
    Kennesaw State
    North Alabama
    Campbell
    Eastern Kentucky
    Jacksonville State
    Central Arkansas

That's not what Robert Morris signed up for when it left the NEC to join the Big South, but they may not have any choice in the matter, nor will Monmouth. Both are in more geographically friendly conferences for all sports. Bobby Mo just moved to the Horizon and Monmouth is in the MAAC. Maybe the CAA has some interest in Monmouth as an affiliate for football, but that league is pretty full up. There continue to be rumors of William and Mary going to the Patriot League, though, so maybe something opens up.

The ASun in hoops would be huge, though. I suspect NJIT will try to beg its way into the NEC or MAAC if this happens, because they have no business being in this league, geographically.

    Kennesaw State
    North Alabama
    Eastern Kentucky
    Jacksonville State
    Central Arkansas
    Stetson
    Florida Gulf Coast
    Jacksonville
    North Florida
    Lipscomb
    Liberty
    Bellarmine
    NJIT

What's up with the potential mass exodus from the Southland, though? First it looks like the WAC wants to poach four Texas schools and now they may lose UCA as well.

Honestly, they're exhibition games for me this year, nothing more. I couldn't even feign to be upset over the result of the Tech-Miami game on Saturday. These games are background for drinking beers, that's it.

Give me Liberty or give me ... a loss.

N.C. State is playing this game only because the contract language stated that they had to pay Liberty roughly $2M if the game wasn't played. Therefore ...

    ----

App State and Coastal Carolina should be worth the price of admission. Liberty and Coastal Carolina tangle in a few weeks. Can't-miss Sun Belt action ...

Yep. A way to pass the time. Yet South Carolina still thinks football is so important that it's going to sink $13,000,000 into firing a coach in the middle of a financial crisis that will ultimately cost a lot more people their jobs. Just so they can beat Tennessee to the punch in hiring Hugh Freeze, a multi-level cheater.

Lots of experience, having previously hired multi-level cheater Lou Holtz.

So consider a moderately successful G5 coach with a lot of buzz around him and the big schools come calling … which of those coaches should send the call to voicemail?

South Carolina seems to be the definition of impossible job. Good facilities, but Clemson is a monster and two hours away. You have to play Clemson, Florida and Georgia every year, not to mention at least one of Auburn, Alabama or LSU. Spurrier got them to a Peach/CFA Bowl once, right? That's about the ceiling in the best of years, because Clemson has appeared to take the Alabama track and just isn't going away. That job is a coach killer.
