Favre sure looked horrible on that drive.

Minnesota's lack of commitment to the running game on a day when their passing game has looked awful is quite confounding.

Not watching a lot of Vikings games, I never understood the dislike of Childress until tonight. Now, I feel like I get it.

So, how many syllables does the word "New Orleans" have in it? What is the right way to pronounce it?

I know someone from that area who calls it, "Naw-lins" (2 syllables)

    I've heard it called "New-or-leens" (3 syllables)

    I call it, "New-or-lens" (3 syllables).

Al Michaels calls it "New Or-lee-ans" (4 syllables).

    Which is right?

Your three-syllable way is acceptable. Many of the people along the coast who are not from the immediate area say it that way.

People from the city and surrounding area call it "New Awlins" -- 3 syllables, with a silent R

"Nawlins" is kind of a pop culture construction, because people from down here definitely pronounce the full "New"

Orleans Parish, in which most of the city is located, is pronounced Or-LEENS, which sometimes throws people off when pronouncing the city's name. It's pronounced that way in some songs, particularly the famous "Go to the Mardi Gras," by Professor Longhair.

The way Michaels pronounces it is like something you'd learn in speech class, though I have heard a couple of people from down here (but outside the city) say it that way.

That was epic in its boringness.

As noted earlier, I hope this is the Favre we'll see all year. Nothing would be finer than seeing him stay one year too long and hobble off at 5-11.
