  1. JOB TITLE: Webmaster

    DEPARTMENT: Newsroom

    STATEMENT OF THE JOB: The webmaster position will manage production of LubbockOnlinecom and other A-J Media web and digital sites and will be responsible for working with the online editor on content, and with local news and sports departments on posting editorial content in story form, slideshow form and other presentations available on the digital products. Will also edit copy and prepare pages for the Avalanche-Journal print version. Should be familiar with some basic HTML construction, understand basic FTP functionality, have the ability to use a variety of social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and have the ability to follow detailed instructions, know Microsoft Word, Adobe InCopy, AdobePhotoshop, Microsoft Outlook Express, knowledge with Chartbeat and Google analytics. Drupal and WordPress experience are a plus. Works under the supervision of the Multiplatform Delivery Desk Editor.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • College degree required.
    • Solid organizational and digital technical skills.
    • Ability to work well under deadline situations.
    • Must be able to manage time and multi-task.
    • Computer literate, with knowledge basic HTML construction, FTP functionality and social media applications, was well as Mircrosoft Word, Adobe InCopy, AdobePhotoshop, Microsoft Outlook Express, Chartbeat and Google analytics. Drupal and WordPress.
    • Must be able to interact with newsroom departments.
    • Must be able to copy edit content.
    • Ability to work effectively and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to accomplish organization goals.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Accurate and close attention to detail.

    ABILITY TO DO ROUTINE WORK: Necessary to be a self-starter, to develop apps and digital products, to maintain and troubleshot all the digital A-J Media products, to do sites checks and check the A-J on the iPad daily, to work with the city desk in posting local news, to work with the sports staff in setting up for game coverage, to handle complaints and service problems relating to digital products and customer accounts.

    CAPACITY FOR GETTING ALONG WITH OTHERS: Works closely with other employees as well as other departments and with the Morris support team on digital issues; deal with customers and support team/.




    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Job includes:
    • Design and build custom web pages and sites (ex: Gameday, Signing Day, Football previews, special sections).
    • Design and place promo links to custom pages.
    • Manage, update and create mobile apps on ShoutEm (A-J, Gameday, LSV).
    • Perform QA testing for corporate releases.
    • Create and design ads for Chad, replace ads on website.
    • General customer service assistance with anything relating to online (All-Access issues, user login issues, blogger issues).

    Share these duties with Online Editor, who works days:

    • Regularly update built pages (ex: Follow Us, Topic Pages)
    • Manage Drupal sites (Lubbock Online, Red Raiders, Lonestar Varsity, mobile) – includes taxonomy, blocks, custom views, custom pages, menu items, nodequeues, user accounts, content includes, promos, slideshows, content checks and corrections.
    • Manage and upload files to FileZilla – (athletes of week, PDF attachments, audio attachments).
    • Sharing local and breaking news stories – both national and local – to our relevant Facebook pages (Which simultaneously posts to our Twitter account).
    • Sending out text alerts on breaking news. The alerts may or not have a link to the story on our website.
    • Posting alert bars to our Twitter feeds of breaking news and live coverage.
    • Drive stories to SM during day.
    • Manage and update WordPress sites (Frenship Today, Buddy Holly).
    • Manage videos and video players on Brightcove.
    • Submit support tickets.
    • Create events on CoveritLive and post to sites.
    • Add Google Analytics codes.
    • Troubleshoot site issues (clear cache).
    • Adopt to new technology as needed.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Work will be performed generally from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday in the newsroom of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, or other days as scheduled. Some nights and weekend work may be necessary.
