At a small meet in Belgium today, Alan Webb ran 3:46.91 for the mile, an American record. The previous record of 3:47.69 was set July 7, 1982, by Steve Scott.

    Good stuff!

How in the hell do people ran that freaking fast for an entire mile? I'll stick with the occasional back-to-back-to-back 10-minute miles and be satisfied.

I'm glad to see he's having success. I worried when he was in high school he'd be a teen phenom who crashed out. Such big expectations, and he's meeting them. Good for him.

First he has to get through the Worlds in Osaka next month without blowing up!
Webb is finally living up to his high school hype.

They don't really run the mile that often any more, do they?

Not so much anywhere but in the U.S., but still one of the two "classic" distances that most any casual fan can relate to.

I don't think, no wait I know, that I couldn't run a half mile that fast.
Even with a gun to the back of my head.
Good to see that Spud Webb is doing something after basketball. I always thought he was an amazing athlete and I was right.
