I didn't see 60 Minutes, but apparently they interviewed Jose Rodriguez, the former head of the CIA's Clandestine Service, who has a new book out.

He defends the practice:

Jose Rodriguez has no regrets about the CIA using "enhanced interrogation techniques" -- methods that some consider torture - on suspected al Qaeda members detained and questioned after 9/11. Lesley Stahl interviews the former head of the CIA's Clandestine Service about waterboarding and other methods he says were essential to getting information from suspected terrorists, and he denies claims that these harsh measures caused detainees to provide false or unreliable information that misled the CIA. In fact, Rodriguez says that high-level detainees Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah provided their best information only after harsh treatment, a claim that the CIA's own investigator general has challenged.

And calls Nancy Pelosi a liar:

In his new book, “Hard Measures,” Rodriguez reveals that he led a CIA briefing of Pelosi, where the techniques being used in the interrogation of senior al-Qaeda facilitator Abu Zubaida were described in detail. Her claim that she was not told about waterboarding at that briefing, he writes, “is untrue.”

“We explained that as a result of the techniques, Abu Zubaydah was compliant and providing good intelligence. We made crystal clear that authorized techniques, including waterboarding, had by then been used on Zubaydah.” Rodriguez writes that he told Pelosi everything, adding, “We held back nothing.”

Lesley Stahl thinks giving Ensure to KSM constitutes torture.There was at least one insane person in that interview but wasn't Jose Rodriguez.

And I'm absolutely shocked that Nancy Pelosi may have lied...

He was on Fox and Friends this morning...

I don't agree with some of what he says, but he makes some interesting points. They also had the wife of one of the pilots who died in one of the 9/11 crashes on and she was singing his praises.

So how long are we going to continue to allow retirement homes & hospitals to torture residents and patients by giving them Ensure?

60 Minutes should do a story on this.

I know Jose Rodriguez personally and have for about 20 years.

He is most definitely not insane. He probably has a world-view that is starkly different from a whole lot of folks here; but he is most definitely not insane.

If the lives of my family depended on my believing Jose Rodriguez' or Nancy Pelosi's rendition of a specific event, I would trust Jose Rodriguez on every day of the week that ends in the letter "Y".

I have to say, I'm curious.

If he was the head of the Clandestine Service, how do you know him? A neighbor? From school?

Did you know what he did for a living, or did he work for some anonymous front company as far as you knew?

Or, maybe once you get that high up, it's not a secret that you work for the CIA anymore.
