Wanting to make jump from twice-weekly to daily, but

    The cost of living isn't bad, but with three kids, I'm still in food stamp land (not much, but $150 a month helps). Health insurance is the kicker, like it is anywhere, since I have some money taken out pre-withholding for a medical flex account that covers co-pays on visits to the doctor, prescriptions and glasses.

    That's considerably more than many, many dailies are paying. Just out of curiousity, what state/province/region were you in?

    Heck, I work full time at a twice-weekly (everything from sports to regular news, photography and features) and part time for a sports department at a daily paper in a neighboring town and I only made 35K last year.
