    And that's a different argument.

    That's not credible.

But the effect is such, right? I guess you can't say that it's a tax on any individual poor person, since any person theoretically can opt out. And many do.

But collectively, the effect ends up being that it is a regressive tax on poor people.

To me, when you say it isn't a tax on poor people, that's kind of like saying, "Money doesn't help people get educated. I know a poor kid who went to Harvard."

Sorry, but a vote for Michael Young for MVP of the American League in 2011 is not a credible vote. It just isn't. It sucks that the bloggers are right and a BBWAA member is wrong, but that's how it is.

    That's a different arguement :)

Not sure where you are going about the "collective poor" thing but you could probably make your point about any product that poorer people spend money on.

    Well, I mentioned cigarettes.

    Junk food is another.

I can't stop laughing as I read this thread. Dick, nobody is banning you. You can still post, can't you? I wasn't really even chastising you.

I was just trying to say that between this, the Michael Young and the Bachmann/Fallon threads -- you've been taking some legit disagreements very personally. And, it's resulted in you erasing posts because you're embarrassed.

I was trying -- gently -- to suggest you take a deep breath. That's it. Take a good look at the "I'm right! They're wrong!" post and see how it comes off.

Vegas may not, but the Indian casinos around the country might.

It's not a tax; no one has to play the lottery in the same way that someone has to pay a sales tax for basic goods. And of course it's going to be played by those with less money; so what? Such people have fewer choices than most in life as it is; stop trying to be their nanny.

At least in Canada you don't get taxed on your winnings.

    But there's that thick-accent thing.
