    Trying not to laugh.

Listening to El Slobbo, or Bartender-Boy, or Bullethead Beck, you trip all over the obvious facts they conveniently ignore, because to mention them would torpedo most of the arguments such worthies roll out to the world.

And do such cautions apply to the wildest of the wild-eyed Lefties? Of course.

. . . except that Swollen Pantload and his ilk pretend to be mainstream, which make their gross distortions all the more irresponsible.

No, you definitely looked a gift horse in the mouth.

To throw another economic term out there, Wal-Mart is a monospony in many towns. In English, that means they're the only shop in town and hence can pay whatever they want (i.e. less than the equilibrium pay rate the market would set if there was competition in the demand for low-skilled labor). So, to answer your question, many people don't have a choice.

Don't have a choice? If Wal-Mart really is putting a gun to people's heads and forcing them to work there, I agree, Wal-Mart is evil.

Otherwise, get another job, somewhere. Maybe your town doesn't have a Target. Does it have a McDonald's? A gas station? A pig farm?

I'm not trying to say working at Wal-Mart is like working at the bubble gum factory, but when you're talking low-skilled, dime-a-dozen jobs, you take what you can get. It's why education is important, unless you waste it on a journalism degree.

I don't mind making sure that people are able to provide for their kids, but I don't know if raising the wage for all low-skilled work across the board is the way to do it.

I don't know if you got the memo but the United States is in this thing called a R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N. Some would even go as far as to say it's a Depression. A lot of people with one and two college degrees are out of work. So, no, there's no literal gun to their head but maybe it's a figurative one, as in, they need to pay their bills. That's why they have to take a job at Evil-Mart.

Hubby works for a large electric company.. they are hiring an administrative assistant in his department.. that means secretary.....they're getting applicants with dual master's degrees ......and you're criticizing people for doing honest work because it's at a place you don't like?

I'm not criticizing them. I'm saying that's why they have to work there. It was posed by Some Guy that if you don't like the place, don't apply. My point is, many people are having to apply and take jobs at places they don't like or are overqualified for.

Do you have a coherent argument to make?

Let's look at this. In my area of town, there's a Wal-Mart, Kroger and HEB...all within a few miles. There are also a sprinkling of other specialty stores.

If I were to hit each individual speciality store to do my shopping, it would take HOURS! Or, I can hit one of those big three and get everything (except clothing, etc.) all at once.

Oh, and lest the "made in China" boast come out again, the products I'm buying at Wal-Mart are also sold at Kroger and HEB. No hatred for them?
