Wakefield walks away

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Feb 17, 2012.

  1. Interesting Gordon Edes observation that Wakefield singled out Dan Duquette for mention in his retirement speech but did not mention either Terry Francona or Theo Epstein. Of course that could be because those two left the organization this offseason and he didn't want to make things difficult for their replacements. Or it could be that Wakefield wasn't happy that Theo signed him to very team-friend $4 million per year renewing contract and then even squeezed him from that club friendly deal.

Wakefield was pissed when Francona dropped him from the rotation. Heard reliably that he went in for a sitdown with the manager and told Francona that demoting him from the rotation was like taking Yaz out of the lineup.

Francona was stunned at that, and the line was repeated often among the staff for the rest of their time in Boston.

So when does 3OctaveFart or Gehrig start the inevitable Wakefield: HOF thread?

Only seen one game in my life at Fenway.

It was Wakefield vs. Dennis Springer. Like Spy vs. Spy, only with knuckleballers!

  5. 99.9 percent of the professional athletes I have dealt with have never lacked confidence. They almost all universally believed themselves to be as good as Jordan, Bonds, Woods and Montana... Those guys just got breaks they didn't didn't.

    Embarrassing, egomaniacal dribble.

It's hell to get old. He had a great career, for what he was, but he stunk on ice, last year.
