W.C. Heinz for Red Smith Award (2007)

    This is no withdrawal, but you know what struck me today? It's almost as if this is kind of backwards, in some sense.

    Red was one of the best; but maybe he should have won the W.C. Heinz award, you know what I mean?

    One of the revelations to me, in reading the Best American Sports Writing of the Century book, was the work of Heinz.

    The guy was/is, in the board's lingo. a freaking stud.
