Jesus, that may've caused some serious brain damage. Not only was the punch extraordinarily vicious, but appears the dude's head then lands unprotected on concrete.

For anyone cheering that: If you support violence against people whose ideas are repugnant. ... don't be surprised when someone tees off on your face because they find something you said objectionable. And really, you'll have really forfeited your right to complain if that ever happens, because you are saying you are OK with that kind of behavior.

And no, you can't unilaterally decide who deserves to be punched and who doesn't (the good and bad guys as YOU see it). ... that isn't how a lawful society works. When you declare you are OK with that, you open the barn door wide for any disagreements to be met with violence, including your beliefs that someone might disagree with.

Hitting someone who is an asshole might feel good, but unless that person is actually threatening you with violence, you are no different than anyone else who commits assault and battery. Sorry.

An idiot who wears a swastika in public is someone who would like to upend American values of equality under our law. You don't counter that by taking the law into your own hands -- which also upends our values. You effectively have sunk to the same level as that person when you use violence, whether you realize it or not. And among other things that undermine your purpose, that is how we end up with the "many sides" narratives, because you just did your own beliefs a disservice by allowing someone else to take the conversation away from the disgusting ideas (where our attention should be focused) of the guy wearing a swastika to your condemnable behavior.

The way to deal with disgusting ideas (actually, any ideas you disagree with) is with reason. The way to deal with real threat of actual violence is by defending yourself. They should be kept separate. Ideas are just ideas. If someone isn't physically threatening you, there is no place for meeting ideas (even Nazism, white supremacy) with violence in a society that prizes open dialogue, law and order, individual rights, etc. IF those ideas cross over into physical threat or actual violence. ... then of course you defend yourself.

Would you shoot ISIS in the back or do they deserve to be confronted like Christian men in a fair fight?
