    Should be compatible with Macs and PCs. I've only used it to view files on both, but only done editing work on a Mac with it. As far as I know, it doesn't have to be formatted for just one.

    Our JVC Everio is pretty good. But it's not compatible with Macs out of the box. I had to do some research and buy a program to convert the files to something Macs can digest.

    That said, it's a great camera. Great battery life, solid record time and pretty damned easy to use.

    My wife has a Samsung that works with a flash memory card -- lightweight and inexpensive.

    I use one for work and it's fine. You can't get great action with it, but it does great with simple stuff.
