It's Victory Lane because it's treated like a street name. Main Street. First Street. Pit Road would be capitalized for the same reason. Not saying it's a good reason, but it's the way it's been explained to me.

Never covered racing, but this makes sense to me.

For those who who go with "Victory lane," why would the "V" be capitalized?

The style is Victory Lane. For good or bad, that's the style.

Victory Lane at NHRA events is when they put all the winners on the platform after the race, not the top end of the race track.

Doesn't matter if it's official or not.

It's a reference to a mythical place that racers reach when they win. It's like Heartbreak Hotel ... it's up because it makes no sense to make it lower. If you don't want it uppercase, simply avoid it altogether.

So it's Victory Lane for two reasons: 1) It should be and 2) perhaps things aren't right simply because AP says they are, but for the vast majority of us, AP is the standard for setting style, and they have it up, and so it is.

    I like that.

    "It's like Heartbreak Hotel."

    Dammit, I like that. :)

At the local tracks I covered, Victory Lane was the start-finish line.

Same here, but only the track announcers got to do interviews there. I had to wait until they got back to the pits. Or, wait, maybe they were The Pits.

In terms of the stall where pit crews work on cars during the race...is that pit road or pit row? Thanks!
