Vehicle CD player question

I have a 1992 Toyota pickup that has a factory CD player in it. This truck has been on a lot of dirt roads, and I imagine there is quite a bit of dust in the CD player, even though it has the obligatory shield in place.

Safe to play CDs, or would it a) mess up the CD, or b) mess up the CD player?

CD should be fine. It's not like an old vinyl LP that has contact with a needle. Laser lens, though, might need cleaning. That'll help with skipping.
