using name of plays in stories..

    It's a great detail. Not for every story, mind you, but occasionally. It needs to be some key play that has some relevance to the story, and the play needs to be explained, of course. But fans eat up this inside-the-huddle kind of stuff.

    If you're going to use a play name, it better have won the game or lost it, and you got to explain what it is, at least in a way my grandma can understand it. Otherwise, just go with run or pass... Not all readers are football coaches and/or Merrill Hoge.

    That is one of the few plays I'll never forget and I'm not even a Georgia fan.

    Unless you explain exactly what the play is, don't do it...

    It can be done correctly, but often it leaves the reader saying "What the fuck is Omaha 21?"
