Well, yeah, and everyone breaks the speed limit on the interstate. But when you've got a Porsche that was going 135 mph, it's nice to see the cops pull it over.

It's vacated. No one "gets" it. It's not like everyone moves up in the rankings.

They most certainly knew this was a possibility when they signed their LOIs. This investigation has been ongoing for at least three years. And they certainly have benefitted from the ill-gotten riches created by the cheaters.

SC FB and men's BB have been dirty for a long time. Henry Bibby probably cheated more than Tim Floyd ever did.

Henry Bibby was a dirty, dirty coach.

Kiffin knew this was coming when he signed on. It's the reason he got the offer and someone else didn't grab the job. It's still a better job than Tennessee.

Hell, Kiffin was THERE! when the crap was going down. Damn right he knew what was coming down.

My point was Kiffin never would have gotten the job if it didn't come with sanctions. I'm guessing the first person asked would have jumped at this job otherwise. Without sanctions, this is the best college football job in the country. Big tradition, huge money, but the expectations aren't as absurd as they are at ND, Florida or Bama.

Will today be remembered as the last time the NCAA had any big stroke, the death rattle coming when the superconferences render the NCAA irrelevant?

Expectations aren't as absurd because the fans are basically as fair-weather as they come in CFB.

And if your fan base doesn't give a shit unless you're winning big . . . can it really be the best job in the country?

Yes, I think it was one of the lates 1980s one.

I was about to say City College of New York had their NCAA championship in 1950 stripped because of point-shaving, but apparently it still stands.

Since the USC problems deal with two programs, couldn't there also be some sort of "lack of institutional control" penalty on top of whatever else is dealt?

Yes. Entire dept. is on probation in addition to the other stuff

The joke is always, "The NCAA is investigating <big name school>. Central Michigan better watch out." Does this change that?

Also, the talk on here has been about Lane Kiffin. But does anyone look any smarter than Pete Carroll? He gets out of there before the posse can get him and he doesn't just escape, he walks into a boat load of money.
