USA Today's new layout

    Knowing Papa G, this is probably what they're going for.

    Standardize & streamline the product, and then bring the local papers in line. Then, lay off staff and use local paper copy -- or ship the national stuff (like they're already doing with the baseball page) to the local papers, essentially blurring what line exists between USA Today & the locals.

    It was hard to make local papers look like the old USAT, although they certainly tried. This is a bit easier to do.

    I'd expect to see a gradual rebranding of many of the Gannett papers to something more uniform within a generation, as readers' loyalty to the local paper begins to go away with the iPad generation.
