I'm guessing you're talking about the announcerless game? That happened in '80.

Yes. He gets the prime in-studio seat on the SNF post-game show b/c he's not an insider. He operates the most-read NFL site on the Internet and partners with the network that airs the most-watched game of the week while Jay Glazer writes for a site nobody in their right mind ever visits and appears on the Fox post-game show long after most of us have gone to the dinner table, but yes, Florio is not an insider.

When I think "NFL Insider", I think about guys who routinely break news. I do not think of guys who routinely link to other writers who break news.

    I think of Glazer.
I do not think of Florio.

That said, some may define "NFL Insider" a little differently than I do. So be it.

I'm with you on Jaws. He almost makes "this guy" palatable.

PFT has broken plenty of news. If Florio wasn't an insider, why would NBC give him the audience he gets on the SNF post-game show? Why doesn't PK get that gig? I'll agree the guy is not a traditional insider, but you don't go from running a site as a hobby to NBC without being the real deal.

And when was the last time you visited FoxSports.com for anything? I bet Jay Glazer would kill for his hits.

Florio made a big pitch for votes on PFT, earlier this morning.

You don't get to where he is by being modest, either.

He's not the guy I'd vote for as my top NFL insider. As much as it pains me to type this, I'd probably go with PK. But the idea that Florio is a light-hitting Single-A infielder [/mixed metaphor] in the discussion is ludicrous.

Collinsworth seems (and I've never met him) so arrogant that it's tough to listen to him.
I often mute the announcers anyway, unless I'm watching games with my wife.

99% of the stuff on Florio's site are links just like Drudge. He has done an amazing job with his site but a NFL Insider breaks news. Florio is doing what he railed against for years. Taking press releases and other people's stories and rewriting it as his own. Does Florio give credit to Glazer and the like, yes, but it doesn't make him an insider.

Show me the breaking news from the past three days?

Do you consider Matt Drudge a political insider?

This morning: League minimizes conference call w/officials: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/29/league-privately-downplays-officiating-conference-call/

Thursday: Dilfer, Newsome have words at Ravens Super Bowl reunion: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/29/dilfer-newsome-have-words-at-ravens-super-bowl-reunion/

Thursday: NFL investigating Moss media blackout: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/28/league-looking-at-moss-media-blackout/

Tuesday (is Tuesday OK, even if it's four days ago, or will that not count?): Raiders' Murphy out w/bruised lung: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/26/louis-murphy-likely-out-for-sunday-with-bruised-lung/

Also in scanning the last few days of PFT, I found these other breaking news items:

Oct. 21: Florio speaks to Vincent Jackson's agent, gets the scoop that Jackson will report to the Chargers today: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/21/vincent-jackson-will-report-to-chargers-next-friday/

Aug. 31, 2009: Chiefs fire Chan Gailey: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/31/source-chiefs-chop-chan-gailey/

99% just links? No breaking news? Not an insider? K.
