    I remember Al McGuire saying in the aftermath of the 1988 Olympic loss to the Soviets that the U.S. should send a college team rather than a collection of college all-stars to the Olympics. FIBA made that a moot point by the time Barcelona rolled around, but the idea had merit. And I don't see any problem with sending a university team to the World University Games.

    I don't either, unless sending UNI proves to be embarrassing.

    I think this is an interesting experiment. I will definitely be dredging up this thread in August.

    My guess is that the reason they're doing this is because USA Basketball is already putting a college all-star team together to play in the Pan-Am Games in July in Brazil. I believe the last time the Pan-Ams and World Us fell in the same year, 2003, USAB didn't even send a team to the World Us.
