It's sort of unique to think back to the Exxon Valdez and the lack of internet, most cell phones, solid cable TV, and you see how something like that sort of slipped under the public's radar for a large part until years later.
Now, with all the technology out there, the public I think is sort of sweeping this aside as of now.
Even here on SJ, where Tiger's driveway car wreck got 10 pages instantly, this is nearing 2 weeks old and we only have 2 pages of posts.
This Gulf oil slick is some really bad shit folks.
Whether you know it or not.

Because it's a slow killer; Katrina was sudden and powerful, even if you knew days out it was going to hit.

They did a controlled burn today and it lasted all of 28 minutes, according to NPR.
It was said to have burned quickly in the area they had cordoned off.
Other burns were done at first, then the seas picked up and it was too rough.
I hope burning the oil will be a good solution, but I'm interested to know how damaging to the habitat in the surrounding waters that burning can be.

Since you mentioned Valdez, what makes this so much worse is that Valdez was a finite amount of oil --- they knew exactly how much that tanker was carrying and how much they'd have to clean up. No one knows how many millions of gallons of crude will be in the Gulf by the time they get this fucker capped off.

The oil slick is now the size of Puerto Rico, and that's just the oil on the surface. Good gosh.

The Clown College handling of this by the Feds is breathtaking in its incompetence.

It is amazing how oil covers water. I know 210,000 gallons sounds like a ton of oil, but that is just a decent sized swimming pool at your local YMCA.

    What are you talking about?

She's doing such a bang up job at DHS, that they can't even consider her for the SCOTUS because they can't afford to lose her at DHS.
