I did forget about Brewer. Good call.

The timing at this Gannett-owned paper is terrible: The Courier-Journal just erected its paywall, becoming the latest in Gannett to start charging for digital access. Bozich and Crawford would have been huge draws for online sales.

I applaud Craig for sticking up for his paper and his staff.
People leave newspapers all the time – it's the nature of the business – and it's an editor's job to find talented replacements.
To suggest that some people are irreplaceable is just ludicrous. If that were the case, any paper that loses a star performer should just give up.
No offense to the people who left – they are very good – but there are plenty of talented writers and editors out there. And I'm sure Creig will find plenty of them who would love to work at a place like the Courier - Journal.

That would actually be a really good fit...

You can't replace a guy like Bozich. There are only a handful of columnists left who are so identified with the papers where they work and he was one of them...

Crawford is a huge loss as well.

I would love to be wrong, but I can't imagine Gannett letting the C-J replace both of them... Hell, Gannett is probably cheering to have those salaries off the books.

Marc Spears is another C-J alum from the 1990s who is gone. Granted, he was not there long...

Hey, it was 1:30 a.m. My bad.

I could say I was pointing out the fact that editors are great at correcting those types of lame word strings.

    Yeah, it would.

    . . . but question #1 . . .

Would the C-J, in its present state, pay him what he's worth?

Could they? Probably. I have no idea what Bozich was making at the C-J or what Sullivan was making at the U-T or whatever it's called these days, but I'm guessing both numbers are pretty high.

Would they? That would be anyone's guess, but if you're looking for a great columnist who some of the readers may remember from his time in Cincy, Sullivan would be a no-brainer.

It simply continues to look that the C-J is crawling into the "jeez, whatever you do, don't pay for genuine national-level talent" hole . . . I'd love to be wrong.
