I think there are eight NFL coaches making more than Saban.

Yeah I know there are some making more, but there are some NFL coaches making in the $3-4 million range.

If he does decide to step down, this would be the time to do it.
Let Applewhite coach the Alamo Bowl, bring in whoever....

He wouldn't be the first to be stolen by a Texas school.
    Dennis Franchione.
    That didn't end well.

Bob Stoops, on the his coaches show a few weeks back, said he wanted to coach middle school basketball somewhere after he retired. This is no joke.

When Franchione was at TCU, he was considered a candidate for the head coaching job at the school I was helping cover. I called him up and he said, "If you write that I'm a candidate, I will sue you and your paper."

I said, "OK, I'll mark you down as not interested."

He said, "I didn't say I wasn't interested, but you better not write that."

By the end of the day, we had determined that he wasn't in the top 3 for the job so the only mention of him in the story was, "TCU's Dennis Franchione is not believed to be a candidate." Our competing paper had reported that he was a top candidate and he was kind of the Chris Petersen of the time where he was mentioned for every major opening.

He calls me up the next day. "Who the hell told you I wasn't a candidate?" I said, "Have you been contacted?" and he said, "No, but I could be."

Urban Meyer once said he wanted to spend more time with his family. :D

    Um, yes.

Watch a college basketball game. Then watch an NBA game right after. JV and varsity.

Big-time college football is as major-league as it gets. I've been around major league sports, all of the Big Four. And a lot of other sports. At the level Alabama plays, it is most definitely major league. Saban has succeeded at the top of his profession, which is as a college football coach. He might be the best in the game right now. He doesn't need to "prove" himself in the NFL.

I used basketball because you're more likely to have games on back-to-back on the same day. Football is no different, though, in terms of comparable quality.

Alabama would lose 60-0 to the Houston Texans.
