Figured this deserved its own thread, given the Saban speculation:

I'll be curious how many college and NFL coaches say in the next 48 hours, "I have not been contacted for the Texas job. I am fully committed to staying at (Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Baylor, A&M, Oklahoma State, Stanford, the Ravens, the Seahawks...).

Surely Saban's a done deal, right?

    Saban lost on purpose.

I don't think he'll leave for another college job, but if he does, this would be the only one that would make sense on any level.

Just in case, Iowa better be safe and give Kirk Ferentz another undeserved raise.

Quite possibly the most overrated coach of our lifetime.

Some guys just have a wanderlust, get antsy ... and Saban is already two years beyond anywhere else he has ever been. I understand that a lot of that was because he was climbing the ladder, and there doesn't seem to be a higher rung than Alabama. ?But I also think seven years in one place, to a guy like that, can really wear him down.

    Coaches are weird dudes.

    And, also, money.

And nobody fits that stereotype better than Saban. Alabama is supposed to be down (by its standards) next season, so if you're ever going to make a move, now would be the time.

The thought of winning titles at three schools might appeal to Saban and might be enough for him to join the "greatest ever" conversation, even though he's probably already in the mix.

I was going to say that as part of my "weird dudes" comment. They get into a line of work that pays less than nothing, and every one of those guys will tell you that was when they were at their happiest, and then they start moving around for incremental increases to what is already more money than their great-grandchildren will ever get to the bottom of. And they themselves don't bother to take any enjoyment of it either.

    A little strange.
