Those new PC commercials about finding a comparable PC for less are awfully annoying.

But a Windows virus won't affect the Macintosh system or any data on the Mac partition.

Hijack This is a very good program.

There's also web sites devoted to reading the resulting text file and tell you which files are good and which files are bad.

Remove the USB cable from your ass to avoid catching computer viruses. :)

Just out of curiosity, are you using McAfee VirusScan? If so, your problem may not be the one you think you have.

I did have McAfee, but I let it expire recently and was behind in getting it updated. Of what unknown problem do you speak?

I put it into another thread, given that there may be people who are affected. Essentially: Thursday's virus definitions file incorrectly ID'd critical Windows component software as malware. Its attempts to remove those components create expensive doorstops.

Well, since my McAfee wasn't running, it wasn't telling me, or trying to remove, any components.

I'm going to try the recovery disk, I guess. There is nothing on the computer (pictures, files, etc.) that I don't have copies of.

UPDATE: Took it to a local computer guy who basically wiped the system and rebooted my stuff. Dropped $60 and he installed some cool free programs that will help keep the CPU clean ... oh, and I learned that Comcast offers McAfee for free as long as I am a customer. Back in business, baby!
