Gonna be awkward when players who coaches are happy to bid farewell want to come back. Freshmen find their playing time less than they presumed. Of course, freshmen always think they’re going to play. But this exaggerates it.

Especially for these seniors who are graduating in May. What are they going to study or even do for an entire year to stay eligible?

Then the fifth-year seniors just don't play much.

I do like the idea of giving seniors a mulligan on winter and spring sports eligibility. 99.5% of these athletes have no shot whatsoever at going pro. Give them another year to work toward a master's degree and in the meantime a full shot at postseason success.

    I mean, I don't know, maybe there's a legality involved.
They sort of signed a contract to play an activity at the school.

My wife is Tar Heel born, Tar Heel bred, and when she dies, she'll be Tar Heel dead.
She is a former women's college basketball coach, D1 women's referee, and currently an evaluator.

We are watching Carolina in the 2008 ACC tournament right now.

Then take one player from each team and do a rock, paper, scissors NCAA tournament. Take about an hour one night, it would get monster ratings.

What about players from teams who had already been eliminated from postseason play (sub-.500 season, or no realistic chance for an NCAA/NIT/CBI/WNIT berth) and had completed their seasons? They get another full year of eligibility even though their 19-20 season wasn't impacted at all?

Spring sports, yes. Winter sports, no.

Thinking of the jucos that have shut down as well. This would have been the final chance for sophomores looking to move forward.

(Yeah. It's costing kids a scholarship.)

The NJCAA is hoping to play its basketball tournaments starting April 20 and it's going to evaluate spring sports on April 3. The organization has already said that any athlete at a school that decides to cancel its spring season will be granted an extra year of eligibility. But the question is if the NCAA will acknowledge it.

Also, what classes does one take in their fifth and sixth semesters of juco?
