My brother drove from California to Alberta two weeks ago and LOVED Montana. I'll admit to having never been to Montana and doubly admit I'm biased to where I am. But my brother wasn't to go so far as to say Montana had Colorado beat. "But it was close," he said.

Sounds like he didn't go through Montana, though I know of which he speaks re: South Dakota. Awesome, awesome drive. And I didn't even see anything past the eastern edge, driving on I-29 to Fargo, N.D.

If he went to Custer's last stand, he was in Montana.

    Yeah, C'mon now.
Idaho is great...but if you're looking for a real scenic drive, there's none that come even close to Northwestern Montana.
    The whitefish-bigfork area is spectacular.
Which explains why it costs an arm and a leg to live there anymore.

An arm and a leg to live in Montana?

I once had to kill about six hours in Ellensburg when I tagged along on my wife's business trip. Six hours is pretty much a lifetime there. I seriously considered just driving to Spokane and back to amuse myself.
