Unpaid Internships?

Recently, the Ontario Ministry of Labour has begun cracking down on unpaid internships at magazines and potentially could be stretching that to other branches of the media.

What are your thoughts on unpaid internships...is there a place for them?

There's a place for them if the students get college credit and if they are actually learning he business. If they're just being cheap labor, then no.

If the internship is set up and monitored through an accredited school and the intern is receiving some time of educational credit, I've got no problem with it. under those circumstances, the student is receiving some compensation, namely education.

If the internship is not set up through and monitored by an accredited school and the intern is not receiving any educational credit, then the intern is providing labor with no compensation.
