University of Louisville beat Louisville, KY

Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by Upstatesfinest, Jul 27, 2006.

  1. Eric Crawford apparently has been promoted to replace Jerry Brewer as columnist at the Courier-Journal, and here's other C-J news.

We are making two staffing changes in the Sports Department.

    — There are now two Courier-Journal columnists in the Crawford family. Eric Crawford is the new Sports columnist, replacing Jerry Brewer.

Eric has done a terrific job on the University of Louisville beat since returning to the newspaper 6 ½ years ago. It has been a busy time, including the ouster of Denny Crum, the arrival of Rick Pitino and the rise of the football program, and he has chronicled it with timely, thorough news reporting and entertaining features.

He has been honored for his series last spring on the fan and for his work with Pat Forde revealing Auburn boosters’ secret visit with Bobby Petrino, which resulted in Petrino staying in Louisville and the Auburn president’s dismissal. He did great work on U of L’s move to the Big East Conference. He even wrote about college sports budgets and made it interesting.

And now we can look forward to thoughtful, insightful and entertaining columns.

The U of L beat will be posted.

—- Brett Dawson from the Champaign (Ill.) News-Gazette is the new University of Kentucky beat reporter.

Brett is a Louisville native and a UK graduate. He worked for the Cat’s Pause — under the tutelage of Mark Coomes — after graduation. He’s been in Champaign for the past five years and has done some excellent work on the Illinois basketball beat.

Brett’s first day will be Aug. 3, just in time for football practice to begin.

Which would open up the Triple-A baseball beat at the C-J, if there indeed is one?

Wait a minute, I must have missed a thread or something. What happened to Brewer?
That's awesome news about Eric Crawford. He is a tremendous talent and a great person to work with.

Yeah, but there's a month left in that season. They may be able to hold off on filling that spot for a while.

I know they may not necessarily fill it (someone just might shift over to the role), but it was worth asking. Carry on! :D
