We reflected on this a bit today at work. I would argue that it fails even if the grapefruit was displayed as a three-quarters image, simply because the "RAPEFRUIT" text just jumps out at you. There are lots of examples where designers try to sub photos for letters in a type display and damned near all of them fail in some fashion.

There was an ad that ran every year in the Washington Post for a D.C. Jazz Fest event and it used the Washington Monument in place of the "a" in Jazz. Yep, it always read as "Jizz Fest" to me.

If "rapefruit" doesn't enter the SJ lexicon, this place is full of fail.

Instead of making some gratefruit Crystal Light, we'll now make rapefruit Crystal Light.

    And good point, Ygster.

    "Qualifications?"

    "Rapefruit, murder, arson, rapefruit."

    "You said rapefruit twice."

    "I like rapefruit."
