    I watched a middle-period episode of "Friends" last night, the one where Rachel writes the letter to Ross at the beach vacation.

    Good stuff. A vast improvement on the early seasons. Night and day, actually. The plot involving the half-read letter was handled masterfully - terrific writing and terrific acting.

    I felt the same way about the 37th episode of "The Monkees." You know, the one where Davy Jones, once again threatened by the prospect of marriage, finds himself in the middle of a hillbilly family feud.

    Ahead of its time, that was.

    Little does drew know his friend's guest appearance consists of his hand popping out of some quicksand while doctors try - and fail - to save him while "Just One Breath" by the Devics plays over the action.
