Don't remember that at all. Maybe Casty does.

If you have a one-out at bat, a double play and a triple play, have you hit for some sort of cycle?

Well, Clarence Mitchell hit into a triple play and double play in one game in the '20 Series ...

I think you need the ol' quadruple play to make that possible.

Ron Wright, who had a blissfully short stay in the majors did this a few years ago for the Mariners. Struck out and hit into a double play and triple play in the same game against the Rangers. Saw the poor kid play in the minors, could hit for decent power, but was slower than Edgar Martinez.

I've never heard of a pitcher recording 27 outs in one game, with or without allowing a hit.

I did hear of a minor league game back in the 1950s when a pitcher threw a perfect game and struck out all 27 batters, but that would result in the catcher recording 27 outs.

My point is, it's entirely possible for a pitcher to throw a no-hitter or even a perfect game while basically contributing nothing toward the accomplishment. Besides making the initial throws to the batters, that is - what happens after each pitch may have absolutely nothing to do with him.

And also starring MertWindu as Otter....

Well, at least you didn't take that seriously. But please, tell us again about what a putout is.

I think I was at that game. The Rangers turned a weird triple play on the Sunday that Tiger Woods won his second Masters. A runner got hung up between third and home for one of the outs and the batter was thrown out trying for second base. Every cameraman's favorite lefty, Kenny Rogers, was involved.

New York Mets to hit into triple plays:

1962 - Joe Pignatano (his final major-league AB)
    1964 - Bobby Klaus (215 MLB games)
    1967 - Ken Boyer
    1967 - Phil Linz
    1971 - Cleon Jones
    1987 - Wally Backman
    1993 - Todd Hundley
    1999 - Mike Piazza

Thus ends the urban myth of a Met player hitting into a TP and DP in his only ML ABs.

    April 14, 2002:

Ron Wright (SEA) is the batter with a 2-2 count. He hits a ground ball fielded by the P (Kenny Rogers) who turns and throws to the SS (Alex Rodriguez) who is covering second and who forces the runner from first, John Olerud (OUT 1)

SS throws home to the C (Bill Haselman) who has the runner from third, Ruben Sierra) trapped in a run down. C throws to the 3B (Hank Blalock) who chases the runner toward home. The 3B throws to the P who tags out the runner (OUT 2)

P then throws to the 2B (Mike Young) who tags the batter (Ron Wright) who is trying to advance on the play. (OUT 3)
