U.S. wins back America's Cup

Does this mean we get to compete against Somali pirates in the next Cup?

 

I thought we had given it to China as collateral...

 

Used to be in the summer until the race went down under, which has opposite seasons.

 

Growing up in San Diego, the America's Cup only became a big deal when we lost it in 1983. Dennis Conner regained it from the Aussies in 1987.

It used to be a best-of-7 race.

Maybe with regaining the Cup, we regain some say over the next race. I really like Starman's idea of a World Racing League.

 

The U.S. regains ALL say over the next race, as discussed earlier. Can they have it in Tahoe?

 

Sure! And we can all cover it, since we're all just 15 minutes away!

 

Well, that's a grand total of probably four people interested. Might be a little tough to pull off without a few more folks than that.

 

But what about the Third World Racing League? Those poor little countries try hard too.

 

Don't have a link handy, but I read an interview with Asshole Ellison in which he said that's what he's going to do.

The U.S. stops caring when our ass is kicked.

 

It would help a lot as far as U.S. interest is concerned to stage it in or near a major U.S. metro area, so having it in the Bay Area next time around will probably be a boost. And I'm sure they can sell some of the rights to Versus or ESPN, etc etc.
