U.S. cyclists, upon arrival in Beijing, unmasked as asshats.

  2. And they're asshats ... why?

    More general asshattery:

Stupid that those cyclists felt the need (ie were pressured into) apologizing for doing what half the population in China does on a daily basis — protect themselves from the God-awful pollution.

  4. On my one and only visit to Beijing, the air was so thick you needed to strain it to breathe it.

Screw the Chinese (government, not people) if they can't see that.

I on the other hand, would like to thank China for reminding we Americans how good we have it.

I hope the world spends two weeks embarrassing China. Somehow, NBC will find a way to celebrate communism and China's continued human rights violations. But, you're right, the U.S. cyclists are asshats. The entire world will spend two weeks walking on eggshells, trying not to offend the precious little Chinese ... they're lovely people, you know.

Nothing wrong with the people, Cosmo. Now the government and such ... that's a different story. Wonder how much NBC will featurize that instead of covering ... you know ... the actual Games themselves.

    They are asshats for apologizing.

And for an interesting take on how these games might affect the Chinese, read this :

Good column by O'Connor, S-P. Sadly, I'm worried the priest might be right.

These Games could do more damage than good. One wonders if the government realized that the world media that descends upon an Olympics will reveal more warts than wonders.

The dumbest thing about the whole affair is that the USOC gave the cyclists the masks, then got pissed off that they wore them. It's not like the bought their own. They're wearing what their Olympic governing body gave them to avoid pollution and the USOC made them apologize. Absurd.

Wow. And to pile on, just what would the USOC have done to the cyclists who didn't wear the masks?
