USOC attorneys argue that the name of The Olympian, the newspaper in Olympia, Wash., is so similar to USOC trademarks that it falsely suggests a connection between the newspaper and the USOC.

A 1998 amendment to the federal trademark law protecting the USOC has a clause that recognizes Washington state's right to the term; the exception covers "covers naturally occurring mountains or the geographic region named prior to Feb. 6, 1998, and where 'such businesses, goods, or services are operated, sold, and marketed in the State of Washington west of the Cascade Mountain range and operations, sales, and marketing outside of this area are not substantial.'" Olympia is west of the Cascades, southwest of Tacoma.

The USOC should just wait five years, at the rate they are laying people off, The Olympian won't exist by then anyway.

I'd put the over/under on three years for them becoming a single section of the News-Tribune. Already might as well be.

    And I'm taking the under.

Don't forget a high school team in one of Bubbler's old haunts:

Also, that line in the original Terminator movie where Arnold has stolen a cop car in L.A. and mimics the voice of the cop he has just killed, saying, "Heading westbound on Olympic, approaching Overland"---'Olympic' now has to get bleeped out.
