Damn, that was a great effort from Beasley and Donovan.

I'm very bitter I'm not drinking at the bar right now, though in my town I'd probably get shot for rooting for the US.

They are pouring it on right now on the attack.

Well deserved goal off the corner. Just really well executed all the way around from Beasley's delivery on.

Oh, and I like this new U.S. Soccer commercial. Very nice.

    Things getting chippy.

I didn't think he deserved a red card in real time, but on the replay he definitely just went up and kicked Howard.

Why did Howard get a yellow, though?

I don't watch a whole lot of soccer. The red card came out really quickly. Is that like an automatic?

    For using unprintable language?

I'm thrilled to have the game on at work. My editor is considerably less thrilled, but that's just because it's not his beloved Azzuri.

Almost everything is at the referee's discretion. There are certain instances, like bringing down an attacker to prevent a clear scoring chance, which are specifically mentioned in the rulebook, but a call like that would fall under the header of serious foul play, where it's more of a judgement call. The ref knows it when he sees it.

Well, he didn't even try to go for the ball, he just led with his cleats into Howard's legs. I assume that is why he was red-carded so quickly.

PaperDoll, Howard got the yellow for bad language?

I don't know, I'm just watching on television. The U.S. Soccer matchtracker suggests the yellow might be for delay.

Awful flub by the Mexican goalie on the second goal. Just horrible.
