Migraine, but there were some suspicious spots on the CAT scan. Insurance-approved neurologist reviewed them a few days later and said it was nothing, but it's something to keep in mind (no pun intended) next time it happens.

And Ace, I got all parties to negotiate down to insurance-approved rates, but insurance still didn't kick in a penny for that stuff because it was out-of-network. Plus even my co-pay prices for the covered stuff added up pretty good.

Another part of the problem: I was young, on my own, working for a very small employer and didn't know much about how insurance worked or how to fight asinine bullshit like that. My parents had always had good state government insurance, so going to the doctor was easy and a reasonable co-pay. In many years of college, nobody ever taught me how health insurance worked, so I didn't know how to advocate for myself.

I had six cuts on my index finger from where he bit me. I pulled him out from under a car by his rear leg. He also scratched my upper lip from nose to lip, splitting it open.

However, only the bites got infected. As sportschick said "They lick their butts. It was going to get infected regardless."

I went for an ambulance ride, saw a couple specialists, got a CAT scan, some stitches, a four-hour stay in a hostpital bed, a scrub top and a cab ride home all for only $3,400 -- not counting the overdrawn fees on my credit cards. All without insurance. It was lovely.

And yet, private, for-profit insurance companies are still the only way to go. Can't have it any other way. Oh no. It just wouldn't be EFFICIENT!

Honestly. This is the best the wealthiest country in the world can do? Fucking embarrassing.
