    We have two outstanding opportunities here at the York (Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News.

    One is for an Assistant Sports Editor (a management position) and one is for a multi-platform journalist for the sports copy desk (copy editor/reporter, if you want to skip the jargon).

    In addition, I wanted to let anyone interested know that the full-time position covering prep sports in Lancaster County is still in the process of being hired -- http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/threads/93447/ ... In a change, that position is no longer being hired by me. It's now being handled by GameTimePA Editor Lyzz Jones (ejones@ydr.com) and Lebanon Daily News Sports Editor Mike Givler (mikegivler@ldnews.com). The process is pretty far along, but candidates could still get in touch with one of those two individuals.

    Here are the two openings at the YDR:

    ==============================

    MULTI-PLATFORM JOURNALIST, SPORTS COPY DESK

    The York (Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News is seeking a multi-platform journalist to work for both our copy desk and GameTimePA.com. You will join our award-winning staff of journalists who cover high school sports, Penn State football, Atlantic League baseball and more in southcentral Pennsylvania.

    We are a digital-first newsroom that focuses on being the first and best provider of the news that our readers need, across all platforms.

    The seven-day Daily Record/Sunday News has a daily circulation of 55,000 and Sunday circulation of 88,000.

    As a copy editor, this journalist will handle daily print and digital publication of content from three newsrooms – York and our sister papers in Hanover and Lebanon.

    In addition to pagination, our copy editors handle the posting of local and national news across all digital platforms; posting and curation of social-media content; moderation of live chats; the posting of content to our blogs, and much more. Our copy editors are journalists and content creators and play a vital role as such in our department.

    We are specifically looking for a copy editor with a strong background in multimedia and digital-first reporting, to serve as a part-time member of our GameTimePA.com coverage team. Responsibilities would include shooting, editing and posting video; coordinating GameTimePA special sections and projects; and some reporting and writing. We are seeking candidates with experience in producing video.

    This is not just another copy editor position. While candidates must have solid copy-editing and pagination skills (we use Harris for page design), we are foremost seeking a digital-first journalist who understands the tools and mindset that will be needed for newsrooms to move forward and succeed during this time of unprecedented transition for our industry.

    If you have questions or are interested in applying for this job opening, contact Sports Editor Chris Otto at cotto@ydr.com (preferred) or mail resume and materials him at York Daily Record/Sunday News, 1891 Loucks Road, York, Pa., 17408. EOE.

    ==============================

    ASSISTANT SPORTS EDITOR

    The York (Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News is seeking an Assistant Sports Editor to join three other managers in leading an award-winning staff of journalists. The staff’s primary areas of local coverage are high school sports (25 area schools), Penn State football and the Atlantic League’s York Revolution.

    This is a management position.

    The Daily Record/Sunday News has a daily circulation of 55,000 and Sunday circulation of 88,000.

    We are seeking a production-oriented manager to lead us in great work across all platforms, print and digital. We produce three print sports sections each night (our own and two MediaNews regional sister papers) and we also aggressively update our online sites – www.ydr.com and www.GameTimePA.com (our company’s regional high school sports website).

    Our assistant sports editor will keep us at the leading edge of online, mobile and social-networking coverage and innovation.

    This editor will work night shifts and have both weekend days off every other month.

    The ideal candidate will have experience as a copy editor (both deadline stories and enterprise projects) and page designer; will have experience with web publishing and blogs; will understand and embrace the role of social networking in sports journalism; will have some previous management experience; and will be a great team player and leader who can help us coordinate daily deadlines, breaking news and big projects that stretch across multiple newsrooms in southcentral Pennsylvania.

    This is a challenging but rewarding sports management position and is a terrific opportunity for someone looking to lead a group of great journalists and implement fresh, innovative ideas in a digital-first media environment that is constantly evolving.

    If you have questions or are interested in applying for this job opening, contact Sports Editor Chris Otto at cotto@ydr.com or mail resume and materials to him at York Daily Record/Sunday News, 1891 Loucks Road, York, Pa., 17408. EOE.
