Not to ESPN, so I'll give them their own thread. From The Pipeline:

William Weathers, recruiting beat writer extraordinaire and LSU women's sports beat writer, leaving The Advocate for tigerbait.com of the Rivals network.

Scott Rabalais, columnist and longtime presence covering LSU, leaving The Advocate after 19 years for a start-up Web site that is allegedly affiliated with ESPN and will focus on LSU. Phillip Marshall in Alabama just went to the same company to work for an Auburn site.

Scott's last day will be Aug. 20.

Two good friends of mine who will be sorely missed. The Web's gain is print's loss.

    FYI...
This is the Alabama site: http://www.crimsonconfidential.com/
This is the Auburn site: http://auburnundercover.com/
A mixture of recruiting and team news -- subscription-based -- but only loosely tied to ESPN. Like how Rivals is tied to Yahoo... kinda.
The writer gets a salary and a percentage of the overall subscriptions.

    Rabalais is great people...

Both are incredible writers and reporters. The Advocate will be a much lesser paper without them.

    Pump your brakes there Sunshine.

There are still some pretty heavy hitters left in Baton Rouge.

  7. Re: Two more to Web

Agreed. I didn't mean to put down anyone else on staff. Just saying that whoever replaces Rab and Will (assuming that even happens in this age) would have their work cut out for them.

Wow, is it getting bad. I'm a big fan of Rabalais' work. The newspaper college sports coverage in the South is going to be awful this fall.

    Rusty is a wise man.

Different doesn't mean awful. Different can also mean new blood and fresh perspective.

I have a feeling the Advocate's LSU coverage will still match up with anybody in the South.
