I'm no police-tactics expert, but having about 30 officers, all with gun drawn, forming a circle around the car, seems like a recipe for friendly-fire accidents if someone starts shooting.

It seems like that could have been accomplished with fewer officers and guns out.

Police in their hometown had been warned this might happen.

Do you really want to have this conversation?

    On this thread?

Unless he was looking to hurt or kill people with the goal of terrorizing them and/or changing their behavior, I would not consider him a terrorist.

An evil, paranoid killer. A scumbag. Someone with problems with the government. But I haven't read that he was looking to kill cops.

    If he did, I'll retract.

Now, should we discuss the problem with radical Islam & how it influences its adherents to kill innocents indiscriminately or do you want to save that for another day and another thread?

After reading Inky's link, it looks like he was itching for a confrontation with law enforcement.

Still not sure I'd classify him as a terrorist, but It's close.

But it looks like he was out for some kind of personal revenge rather than looking to change a system, terrorize people, or die a martyr.

    From the story:

"His website Friday asked that donations be sent to an address in Clearwater, Fla., to help his family."

Wouldn't it be ironic that the family ends up in debt over his death?

    Yeah, they're fucked up.

I'm not going to argue with you if you want to call them terrorists.

They were certainly driven by an ideology.

Author of this piece is one of "ours", so to speak -- former Tigers hoop beat guy Zack McMillin.
