The dogs were roaming the neighborhood as in somebody let them out on purpose.

Could be somebody she knows trying to stage a home invasion/robbery. Could be a stranger. Either way, I hope they catch whoever it is.

Truly awful stuff, whenever, wherever and whomever this type of crime happens to.

I'm speculating so forgive me, but if the dogs were roaming the neighborhood as if someone let them out on purpose, it's very possible this happened as she was letting the dogs out in the early morning hours as she was getting ready for work. I mean, morning anchors arrive sometime between 2 and 3 usually, I'm guessing. It's entirely possible someone was just waiting for her, and that's a scary thought.

It's a very real threat in TV news.

I'm a "recovering sportscaster" now in news and the women I work with are terrified about this exact thing happening to them. So many, even in the larger markets, are often women living by themselves working at odd hours where they are either going to work when it's dark or coming home when it's dark.

Usually when I get into work, in the middle of the night, I'm happy to walk one of my co-workers through the lot to the front door (we're in downtown of our particular city). These people get letters from stalkers, prisoners and other dreck of society. As a guy, I don't have to worry about that crap as much.

As for Mr. Pressly, I'm familiar with her work and have close friends who work at that station. I pray for her recovery even though it doesn't sound promising at all right now.

There is absolutely no form of humanity lower than a rapist.

If the dogs were roaming the neighborhood, it seems possible to me that whoever did this simply left the door open when they got in to this woman's place, and the dogs wandered out. Not to be too glib on such a thread, but I know if I left my door open for a second my two dogs would be halfway down the street.

What's really creepy is that there's a guestbook on that page. And a female on-air person told me about some of the e-mail she would receive; made my skin crawl.

To me, same level as child molesters and kiddie porn fanatics.
If there was a rape and theft involved...not sure the political angle works..

My God. This is beyond sad. I don't know what to say.

And as if it could be any worse, I think the story is even sadder, because I'm in my 20s and my mom calls me every morning for my wake-up call. My heart aches not only for Ms. Pressly, but also for her mother. I imagine that that's about the worst thing that can happen to a parent.

Injuries may have occured from "blunt force trauma," not a stabbing or slitting as first reported:
