Nice friendly chat on this thread, if it's legit and shows one of the Russian pilots.

Great timing, Thanksgiving this week and all. I always wondered when the turkeys would fight back.

If you've been following Russia's actions in Syria, it's not a big shock this happened. Russian planes have been flying over Turkey since it started, like an annoying neighborhood kid constantly jumping over Old Man Mustaf's fence. The Turks had told the Russians to cool it and they didn't, so Old Man Mustaf finally broke out the shotgun.

While Erdogan's party has come back from the hung election of earlier this year, there's nothing like getting in a pissing match with the Russians to help boost popularity back home.

Getting NATO involved now may encourage the Russians to cool it for a bit re: Turkey's airspace. The timing sucks coming so close to the Paris attacks when it finally appeared people were on the same page (even if reading from different paragraphs).

Embarrassing for Russia to get shot down by Turkey in outdated F-16s?

Even worse, there are now reports that US backed Syrian rebels shot down Russian rescue copters at the crash site using weaponry supplied by us.

What's he going to do when Old Man Vladmir breaks out the nukes?

I love that the Turkish government responded to Putin via Twitter. I'm guessing Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams had no idea Twitter would lead to WWIII when they founded the thing, but damn it, they should have seen this shit coming.
