If Trump wins the GOP nomination, I guarantee record support for Gary Johnson in the general election. He's the likely Libertarian candidate, and he'll get a lot of the anti-Trump Republicans who loathe Hillary and can't stomach voting for her. Trump as president would be this country's worst nightmare come to life: a rich, rude, self-centered bully with the social skills of a toad.

Couldn't you write the same sentence about Hillary?

Trump just has to come out in favor of weed and he'll take away 90% of the Libertarian nominee's support.

To those on the left (and some on the right) feeling that Trump is an empty suit, perhaps a tinge racist, shady, spouting empty slogans with no clue how to actually govern and little to no experience, that's pretty much how most Republicans felt about Obama in 2008. And, like Obama, Trump is tapping into the frustrations of a disaffected part of the population.
The American people have been told for eight years, maybe 12, that they're selfish assholes who are responsible for all of the world's ills. They're tired of it. They want to feel good about themselves again. Trump is more carnival barker than anything, obviously, but when you look at the other candidates on both sides he's one of the few telling them they can make something of themselves and their country. That carries a lot of weight.

    Trump has phenomenal social skills.

He may be running a divisive campaign, but there's a reason why people like Bill Clinton like to play golf with him. For all his bluster, Trump has always been personally popular. Members of the media like him. Chris Christie has described him as fun.

That's crazy. Americans are selfish assholes who are merely responsible for a disproportionate amount of the world's ills.

Jeb Bush is the brussels sprouts of political candidates.
The people in charge keep pushing it on you and telling you it's good for you. Maybe it is, but it still stinks and tastes like shit, and no one really wants it.

No, South Carolina is the test. Iowa (especially) and New Hampshire are quirky. Iowa's procedures make the Texas primary two-step look like child's play.

South Carolina is a far better barometer of where the nominating wing of the GOP is. Indeed, South Carolina might be the state that breathes new life into the Bush campaign.

Meanwhile, on the Dem side, Bernie is up by 30% in New Hampshire. We have leaks coming out about Bill's concerns about Hillary's campaign strategy. Claire McCaskill is talking down socialism.

If it comes to be, the humiliation of Hillary will be much worse than anything Trump may face. She was supposed to win. He was a joke who wasn't even supposed to run.
