He has been dead for 4 days. I understand dental records were needed but the story implies nobody had any idea it was him. Did friends or family miss him? Sad.

Was the vehicle burned so bad they couldn't read a license plate or get a VIN? I would think they had to have some kind of inkling whose vehicle it was.

And I, too, believe this was a suicide.

  4. I interviewed Eddie a few times over the years and knew about his off-court troubles. He was a quiet kid, but he always was very cordial toward me and I felt bad for him when hearing of his troubles. This is horrible news and it really saddens me that he was unable to get the help he needed.

RIP Eddie. I hope you're able to find the inner peace everyone deserves.

There was a chance for a while that this would be the first SportsJournalists.com "XXX is dead" thread *without* an RIP. It took about 17 posts.

"All the potential, all the dreams his family had for him for what his career would and could be, to see it end like this is just tragic," Rockets director of media relations Nelson Luis said.

Do you suppose anyone ever asked Eddie Griffin what his dreams were?

When I heard the news, my first thought was: Why don't they look?
