Sorry L.T. — it was Mystery Meat's map. You were quoting him and what I was looking at was a part of it, and had updated.

    Here's the map again:

    URGENT
Tropical Storm Florence forms in open Atlantic, becoming sixth named storm of 2006 season
Eds: UPDATES with Florence becoming tropical storm, location at 11 a.m. Will be led.
MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Florence formed Tuesday in the open Atlantic, becoming the sixth named storm of the 2006 hurricane season.
Florence had top sustained winds near 40 mph, 1 mph over the 39 mph threshold for a tropical storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.
At 11 a.m. EDT, it was centered 935 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving west at about 12 mph, forecasters said.
Florence comes on the heels of Tropical Storm Ernesto, which was briefly the season’s first hurricane.

And the 5-day map from the National Hurricane Center has it making a mad dash for the North Atlantic.

Good. Will it hit Canada as a Category 1,893?

I am no expert like the rest of you about hurricanes, but it looks to me like it could very easily hit any number of states on the Eastern seaboard. Is this a correct interpretation of the five-day forecast?

You didn't grow up in hurricane country, then. It's easy enough to project the curve.

The five day cone will probably change a lot. Generally storms where Florence is now tend to curve north and northeast around the west edge of the Bermuda high, but there's the possibility of a ridge building that would keep the storm moving more west to WNW. Still got another week before it's any real threat, so who knows? One of the models wants to make it a borderline Cat 5 east of the Bahamas, but that's probably an overexaggeration. The models aren't going to be reliable yet because of the constant reorganization of the storm (the center keeps reforming as it gets its act together).

Nope, Washington State. Not a lot of hurricanes hitting the Pacific Northwest.
