What does the lack of competition tell you?

Challenging AP on pieces of its business, like photos, might be viable, but it's not realistic to attempt to do everything AP does.

Remember they also run a broadcast operation that provides copy and sound around the clock.

If challenging AP were an attractive proposition, surely someone would have jumped into the market in the years since UPI dwindled and ultimately disappeared.

Although, AP contracts agate out through STATS. Perhaps publishers can reach deals with STATS to get the agate?

Plus they're very big into online video stuff now too. That's the kind of stuff going up on newspaper websites dealing with stories from around the world that everyone is envisioning as the future.
