I imagine so. If they say the covered the Cubs fairly, fine.

If they try to make the case they covered them equally, well, that's just crazy.

I might have to use this in a column some time. I'll give you credit, though. :)

Equal coverage is bullshit. Some teams, some stories, are more newsworthy than others, based on a variety of factors (including, of course, reader interest.) That's the nature of news.

Every team should expect fair coverage, however. There's a huge difference.

So then, he's saying Mariotti has never been snarled at? :D

I worked at the Trib in '03 when some higher-ups (from outside of the sports department) came up and told us to open and close certain blinds so that the windows spelled out "Go Cubs" during the playoffs.

Not sure if they did the same thing two years later for the Sox.

    Awesome.

And, for what it's worth, this ex-Chicagoland resident believes the Tribune always played it straight and fair with Sox and Cubs coverage. They cover both teams well, despite the fact that most years, there's not much good stuff to report on either side of town.

Still have those "Sox-Tober" special sections saved, by the way.

Once they hire Mariotti, his hammering on the White Sox, Guillen and Reinsdorf will make them look Cubs-biased again without a whiff of ownership.
