Meredith Viera was interviewing the two "special" kids who Simon made fun of on "American Idol." Think about the most difficult, filled-with-awkward-pauses interviews you've ever done with a prep athlete, and then make those athletes Special Olympians, and then change the setting to NBC Studios live in front of bright lights and a bank of television cameras.

I'm assuming these are the kid with the eyes who Simon said looked like a Bush Monkey and the other one who definitely seemed to be learning disabled.

Simon was a total ass to the one kid, but if I remember correctly, they were nice to the other kid, probably because they thought he was learning disabled.

Simon was a fucktard with this one.
You want to pick on a performer because they suck? Go right ahead.
You want to rip them because "they look like a monkey?" That crosses a line. It's not a beauty contest.
Simon owes that kid a public apology -- even though he'll never do it.

An NBC show taking a FOX show to task. How refreshing.

Fox should have Today on their payroll with all of the time that they have given Idol. I think that Randy Jackson has been on that show more than Tim Russert.

Not to mention Drunk Paula on all the "ET" clones. Goes to show there ain't no such thing as bad publicity.

Special Olymics International says "American Idol" should be commended for giving one of their former athletes the opportunity to be seen last week on national TV getting the Simon Cowell treatment.

"While polite isn't a word one would normally associate with Cowell and company, a viewing of the episode in question shows that the judges were in fact gracious and very encouraging to [Jonathan] Jayne during his rendition of 'God Bless America,' " the organization said in a statement, noting that "at one point, [judge Paula] Abdul commented admiringly about Jayne's spirit and advised him to 'always believe in yourself.' "
