Touchdown Jesus wept ... or at least he will when he sees these uniforms.

    That's just it. The creature comforts of Notre Dame football cannot possibly compete with those of SEC, Big-12, Pac-12 schools, etc. The school HAS to attract kids through its existing image, and tradition is just about all that image is these days. Kids go to Notre Dame on the chance of becoming part of the lore -- just like John Huarte.

    Or, more specifically, all Phil Knight's fault. Knight de facto purchasing the Oregon athletic department was the real impetus that started all this bullshit.

    I don't agree. The difference makers largely go to Notre Dame for the same reasons they go to every other school:

    (1) Relationships they built with assistant coaches through the recruiting process;
    (2) They see it as the best path to the NFL.

    Most of the rest of it is secondary, including academics and the legacy of one John Huarte.

    +1 on this. It wasn't until Nike and Oregon started all of their uniform outlandishness that we got crap like Maryland's helmets or this stuff from Notre Dame.

    Which is exactly the branding genius behind Phil Knight and Nike.
    If people don't talk about you, after a while, you become irrelevant.

    Got it, but there's a difference between branding genius and having people talk about you because your designs are aesthetically pleasing and having designs that people are talking about because they look like they're as ugly as a mud fence.

    Meanwhile, while we old guys rage, 17-year-olds will be talking to each other about how "tight" Notre Dame's special helmets and uniforms are.

    The uni is fine. It's the helmet that is so godawful.
