"...obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25 date for a potential playoff game,” said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon."

Say... there's a thread title that really cuts to the nut of the issue...

NBA teams usually hold final scheduling authority over their arenas.

In other words, sit down and shut up, Vince. ::) ::)

Gotta back Vince on this one... They mailed the contract out a month ago and are still letting them sell tickets.

Vince is just lovin' the attention. He knows how to play the heel with the best of them. Either way, he wins.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that buried way way down deep in every contract for every event in an NBA arena is some clause to the effect: "The NBA team controlling this arena has unlimited authority to reschedule events at its discretion."

Final and undisputed arena scheduling authority is one of the big points the NBA (actually, all sports leagues) demands in all stadium-extortion episodes.

My bet is Vince stomps his feet and screams for a few days, then drops it. Because if he really tries to fight it, all of a sudden he's likely to find the doors of ALL NBA arenas slamming in his face.

The NBA has to accept a little of the blame here, too. They could've set the schedule to where the Eastern teams played on the 25th (in other words, flip-flopped the alternating days between West and East). That would have freed up the Pepsi Center on that day.

Kroenke is married to one of Sam Walton's daughters, so techically, Vince is fucking with Wal-Mart money.

Not a wise move, Vince. Who will sell your HHH t-shirts then?

But you don't set up your playoff sked based on the WW-frickin'-E. Tho the NBA and NHL do adjust skeds based on the circus being at Madison Square Garden for a run of 9 or 10 days.

This has already been debated at length in the running NBA thread.

By the way, a friend reminded me of a similar situation a few years ago where a Stanley Cup finals game was rescheduled because of a scheduling conflict at the Verizon Center with WCW, Ted Turner's old wrestling promotion.

  12. Solution?

    Doubleheader!
